Dinner in New York...

Last night, after the wives went to bed, Rick and I jumped on a plane and flew to New York for dinner. We knew we were out of our element but the idea of eating at the Astoria to celebrate 25,000 visits to Pie would be a once in a lifetime deal.

Sometimes....you need to take the "New Mexico way" to outsiders. Thanks again.

Sometimes.....ya just don't know...

Rick and Vance's parents meet about a billion years ago and went on an extended trip to Brazil. They left the young Rick and Vance with Clem and Zoyie, a couple they meet at a bridge party. Our hero's never knew about this until just recently when Vance developed the urgent need to grow hair straight up as high as possible and Rick stares off into space for days at a time mumbling something about Canada. Rick and Vance, during a phone conversation last week shared with each other their terrible memories of the extended stay with the couple.

Rick, "Dude, I just remembered something. I feel weird about what happened to us years ago and....."

Vance, "blah, blah, blah...I can't hear you, blah, blah, blah......I gotta go, bye!".

More on this story later.

Jobs we had...things we did...

Rick and I never became the successful businessmen we had hoped. Probably a good thing we didn't. Our "line of work" was a little sketchy at times and I'm not sure if we knew we were working or not. This went on for several years. This was the period of time that Rick and I.....well, we each followed a different drummer. I didn't see or hear from Rick for years. Many years later when we did run into each other, I believe our initial thought was, "fuck, that dude is STILL alive."
Then we had another "break" in contact until I somehow found Rick on the Internet. This was just before The Moonpie Chronicles went into wide release. Rick had built a site with the intention of doing what we have done for several years now. I was stoked! I felt famous...almost. What a journey. At 53 years of age I'm thinking about jobs, New Mexico and my child-bride Janet. This adventure started in November of 1974 ands is going strong today. Our methods have changed, but the heart has not. Thanks Rick.

*the Squattenpee Tribal Resort is the place to go for plenty of celebrity cow-tipping and cornhusking fun!

What does the future hold for us?

Rick and I took the liberty of having our photos "aged enhanced" because like Larry King, we were curious. We have questioned our lives and wonder where we will end up. We have no 'pie in the sky' plan that will allow us to just blog like fools for the rest of our lives and have nothing to show for it at the end. I really don't want to be poor again. Ricks photo seems to show a healthy, all be it 'ol hippie just enjoying life.
Vance and Janet appear healthy, but again, Vance, whats with the no pants?
Vance: "I lost them at the Dead concert in Santa Fe in 1986....haven't had the need to wear pants since."
"So it is, so shall it be." - some dude at 7-11 in Gallup, New Mexico

O.K., I'm late to my own party...

10,000 visits to The Moonpie Chronicles, that's great.
Rick and I started this thing in 1976 and had know idea what would happen 34 years later. Moonpie, the book, started as a very small idea I had to chronicle our attempt to make a trip to Memphis just before Rick would leave for the army. Now, years later, the trip seems surreal. Rick is the only one who made the trip to Memphis as Martin and I pissed out at the last minute, we "didn't have a hair on our ass", as they'd say out west.

But some of you seem to enjoy our antics and have come along for the ride. Thank you. Rick and I lost track of each other in those crazy 80's and saw each other only once or twice in that time era. We reunited in December '08 and started the Pie on January 3rd 2009.

We have had visitors from around the world which is pretty cool. It's nice to see that 'wackiness' seems to have no boundaries or just one language. Hey, "we were just funnin' Marshall."

So, for all the followers and visitors....Rick and I will trudge ahead. Thanks again and now lets get off this 10,000 thing and move on to important issues like boobs and potty humor. From the heart of our bottom, peace to all.

Don't let this happen to you on 420 day...

Years ago, on a 420 day in a land far away, Rick and I had some strange stuff happen to us. For a moment, I thought I was a 'fair haired leaping gnome..' and then took a trip on an airport shuttle bus for 20 laps around the airport for no reason at all.
And Rick, while stationed over seas, thought it would be funny to walk around in this bizzar outfit with toy dynamite strapped to himself. The authorities didn't care for Ricks jest.
All this to say....have a nice day. Oh , and don't do stupid shit. People will look at you funny.

We worked our way up.....

After many years just bumming around, Rick and I found a job that we could sink on teeth into, antenna repairmen. At first, it was scary but we got over that. Each day was different and we always got a good laugh out of who was going to shit their pants first. A normal day went something like this:
Vance: "where's the screwdriver?".
Rick: "fuck, I left it in the truck. Go get it Vance."
Vance: "blow me dude, I got it last time."
Rick: "well hell..."
Vance: "hey, did you bring the plastic bag?"
Rick: "what for?"
Vance: "I gotta shit..."

What can I say, nothing beats working with your best friend.

11th season of Dancing With the Stars...

Rick and I were professional dancers on the Duffeys Tavern Dance Troupe in 1977 right out of High school. Forget for a moment that I went to Colorado Institute of Art and Rick was serving in the Army that year. None the less, we worked long hours in the studio and started teaching new students. After one year, we formed a team call "The Rick and Vance and a chick with a stinky bandage around her foot Trio". Oh, the fun we had. But, like all good times, they came to a screaching halt after only 4 months. The chick OD'ed on Oxy's because she said she was too fat, Rick sold his Duffeys jersey on E-bay and I signed a multi-million dollar deal with the NBA selling black and red sneekers. All this, 10 years before Oxy's, E-bay and Black and Red Air Jordons were invented!

I still have my white dancing knickers.

Rallye Racing Days

The previously posted photo of the Porsche 911 reminded us of our earlier Rallye Racing days. Here's a photo of Vance and I in our NORML-sponsored Opel Kadet -- getting a fair amount of air ourselves. Those were some great days. Note Rick (as Navigator) trying to refold the gas-station roadmap.

That's right, we bad...

Rick and Vance were the first to sport the latest fashions at Eldorado High school and man did that back fire! After the first day of wearing the red shoes, everybody had them, same with Ricks kick ass hat. We went to the mesa to discuss our problem and decided to ditch the 'hip' clothes and go back to jeans and mountain boots. In a ceremony of new thinking, the two burned their new clothes and were amazed at how fast polyester burned. When the smoldering heep fizzeled out the two looked at each other and relized their error.
"We had to wait until nightfall and then scurry home in the dark in only our underwear," Vance said. "Not our proudest moment." Rick added.
