Alternative houses, Moonpie style...

When the idea came up of the three of us in a home building competition, we all said, "game on!"
Rick and his child bride went with the products from the earth and built this cool cottage, complete with 'green roof'. Very nice.

Martin decided to stick to the building material that he understood...Aircraft. He chose to build in Vera Cruz, Mexico. Mostly because that where the plane was located. Again, very nice.

And Vance, the perennial 'dumpster diver' would build his home from scrape....whatever. "The best part of this house is that my wife actually let me build it in New Mexico!", Vance said.

Nothing new here, just move along...

Everything from the '70's in coming back around now. All the motocycles are being "bobbed" and all the riders are sporting the 'goat'.

Mini-Coppers are back with a vengence and so are chick boots that were all the rage this last winter (although not in white) but spring is just around the corner.

Hell, even my girl Cher is still popular even if it is only because her kid went overseas to have an 'addadicktome' operation.

Now, lets talk MOPAR! The Challenger was sweet then and is super sweet today. Let's face it, what goes around comes around. Only, it is some of the crap we dig and some of the stuff should just be gone and left behind.
It's a funny world we live in. If you don't think so, just wait 30 plus years and then get back to me. Hell, I remember when I was a repairman on IBM Selectric typewriters (these are bulky machines on which you could print letters and shit with) before the PC's. I thought those days would never end, I was set for life with a trade.

My friend asked me if I wanted to take a class with him at night at the local VO-TECH to take computer repair. I laughed and said, "no thanks".

Now you know why I've been in construction and landscaping for the last 35 years. Enjoy today, it won't be the same for long.

CORRECTION: Wrong Davy Jones

In a recent post we reported on the death of Davy Jones, talented lead singer of The Monkees. We were wrong.

Apparently the DEAD Davy Jones is the one pictured here -- the legendary sea-farer of "Davy Jones' Locker" fame. Jones reported died after a long and protracted tentacle-fungus.
Davy Jones in better days.

Moonpie Chronicles regrets this error in reporting and any dismay it may have cause the famed British singer's fan.

Dinner in New York...

Last night, after the wives went to bed, Rick and I jumped on a plane and flew to New York for dinner. We knew we were out of our element but the idea of eating at the Astoria to celebrate 25,000 visits to Pie would be a once in a lifetime deal.

Sometimes....you need to take the "New Mexico way" to outsiders. Thanks again.

Thank you....

With little fanfare, Rick and I would like to say 'thanks' for stopping by Moonpie. We have now exceeded 25,000 visits to our lame blog. Not bad for a couple of old, weird dudes with a sense of humor and a couple of spare hours a week to share this nonsense with you guys.

I want to say thanks to Rick, Martin and Jones for being the catalyst and a starting point for this to begin back in 1975 and then to the Web several years ago.

East Coast Pie remembers...

Davey Jones was a funny little chap that actually had some music talent. The show was always fun (it was like a little kids Benny Hill primer show, just full of short skits)and my cousins and brothers would always try to do that walk where you cross legs with each other going down the street.
"Here we come, walking down the street, get the funniest looks from everyone we meet.....hey, hey...". You know what I'm saying.

But, Davey, being a lover of the arts and writing, always made time for Rick and his fund-raising events around New Mexico. Here, Rick and Davey were caught together at the Santa Fe Dinner "Under the Blue Stick Lights" evening Gala raising money for Pole dancers.

"Rick always shared my admiration for a chick who could wrap her legs around a pole and hang upside-down," Davey said. ""We started this fund raiser years ago and the trade has been the better for it."

"I dig Davey," Rick said.

Rest in peace Davey.

Another Dead Celeb.

It always comes in threes. First that one guy. Then Whitney Houston. And now....

Teen idol Davy Jones of The Monkees. Dead at 66. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
I remember begging to stay up late to watch The Monkee's on TV as a kid. Great fun.
They were a TV show. They were a "band." Davy Jones and Mike Nesmith were the only real singer/musicians in the group. The other two, Peter Tork and Mickey Dolenz were there for comic relief. Davy, with his Brit accent was the heartthrob that the girls all shit themselves over.

But whenever I think of Davy Jones, I remember the time he was on The Brady Bunch as himself.

Songs I remember by The Monkees? Daydream Believer. Last Train To Clarksville. That's it.

It's that rockin and a-reelin' good time feelin'....

...solid gold Golden Inn!
Featuring our own beloved Vancerino right there in the middle.
The Golden Inn was THE place to be back in the 1970s and 80s.... right up till the day it got burned down, part of a series of arson crimes against local bars. The Golden Inn was located in the town of Golden, NM, back on the Turquoise Trail. It had a certain lawless quality to it that attracted the freak element of the day.
