The Mangy Moose Magical Mystery Tour
I'll just say a little bit about this photo, then Vance can say his piece.
Vance created this image the old-fashioned way. We didn't have any fancy Photoshop back in those days. This was all painstakingly and meticulously hand-cut and glued. Note the nipples in the headlights, a delightful playing with the euphemism for a woman's breasts.
l to r in this photo are: Tod Deniston, David Lewis, a photo of a naked woman, Vance, me, Blane, Martin, Bullwinkle, and Richard "Clergy" Cleary.

Spam and rudeness will not be tolerated. We're here to have a few grins, and if you can't abide, move along. Did I mention Spam? Because if I didn't, here it is. NO SPAM!! That includes saying you like our blog and it's thought-provoking (which we know is a lie) and here's a link to your blog. Basically, if you link post a link to a for-profit site without the express written consent of me or the Big Vance-a-rino, I'll delete your comment and you'll look like an ass or I'll mock you mercilesly for being a dork.
~Peace & Love,

At long last this picture( see; 70's folk art), is available to the world. Sorry about that. Lets start at the begining. The van is like a '71 Ford Econoline van that was owned by Lester Gary at the time. Lester, Cleary and I were in the ACRA Search and Rescue Group and hung out for a while. Lester and I have actually been to an out door movie with our girls in this van. Jeez, I think the last Drive-in was on Central Ave. between Juan Tabo and Eubank, and we saw "Aloha, Bobby and Rose". Rick and I were into these ralley style cars at the time and that why there are the 'decals' showing driver and navigator on the pot leaf hood of the van. Front bumper sported those thing that fueled Rick and I in those days, Olympia beer and being members of NORML. On the drivers door: "high cotton" was the CB Handle for me before David Lewis sorta borrowed it for 3 years or so. "Reefer maddness", no explination needed. "Flying Fools" was sort fo a TEAM name for Rick and I, as the Chevy Luv only spent half the time with the tires on the ground. Channel 11 on the roof vent was part of ACRA or Lesters channel that he followed. "Yahtzee" and Bullwinkle are on the van because I like them both. There you have it, the only piece of '70's clip/folk art from Vance that anyone will ever see. Mostly because there are no others...
ReplyDeleteAnd would you please tell our audience what the acronym "ACRA" stands for?
ReplyDeleteYahtzee was a Jones saying of Jim Jones’. He said it in this weird voice he used to do, and he’d sort of wave his arms around and have a minor spastic fit. The voice was sort of like…. Al Jolson. Like imagine Jolson saying “Mammyyyy!” Then picture Jolson saying “Yahtzeee.” He said he was inspired by a movie he saw—I’m thinking it was “Big Top”—where some guy like a Ringmaster says “Is everybody happy?!” and the crowd answers back, “We’re happy! We’re happy!”
ReplyDeleteHe also did this thing—in the same voice—where he’d say, “Kawatiti” (Kah-Wah-Tee-Tee.) No one is sure where that came from. I made up a little cartoon about that after seeing Martin Sheen in “The California Kid.” It was called “The Kawatiti Kid” and was about a guy on his go-cart.
Fucking Jones, man.
I'm still waiting for the ACRA explanation.
ReplyDeleteWhy are the secret code words to post comments all vaguely filthy?
Which code words are those? ACRA? Or Fucking Jones?
ReplyDeleteThey mean to post you type the word like "penislium" or "vaginalot". Sorry, but I still don't remember what ACRA stood for. Possible: Albuquerque Citizens Rescue Association.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh. A Duhhrrrrr....
ReplyDeleteI only have to do that once in a while.
